Adam D. Hermes
Vice President and Fraud Investigations Manager

Adam D. Hermes is the Fraud Investigations Manager of Comerica Incorporated and Comerica Bank. He oversees a team of investigators in multiple states conducting a diverse range of financial crime investigations, including cyber-enabled crime, wire fraud, check fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering.

Adam joined Comerica in 2002 and has held various roles within retail banking, compliance, and financial crime investigation.  Before joining Comerica, Adam served in the US Navy with the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, operating the nuclear plant onboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt during Operation Allied Force and Operation Southern Watch. Adam holds a Bachelor of Business with a Concentration in Finance from the University of Phoenix. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist. Among his professional and community affiliations, Adam is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists, and serves on the Executive Board of the Michigan Chapter of ACAMS as its Membership Director.

Jim Potts

CEO, Potts and Associates

Jim has been assisting and representing employers of all sizes and industries in the field of human resources for thirty-five years. Throughout his professional career he has attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Juris Doctorate Degree, Real Estate Brokers License, and is also former a Reserve Captain with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a certified Mediator through the Los Angeles County Bar Association and a former Master Teacher for the University of Phoenix having taught on the graduate and undergraduate levels. His course curriculums included, but were not limited to, Business Law, Employment Law, The Legal Aspects of Supervision, United States Constitutional Law and Ethics. Rounding off Jim’s career highlights he is also an author having published his first book In July 2008 (Right to Counsel) and a second one in November 2013 entitled “Walking on Eggshells” a manager’s handbook on managing a minority workforce. Jim’s third book, “A Matter of Principle” is currently in it’s first editing and is expected out after the first of the year. Specializing in hiring and firing policies, practices and procedures, Jim has successfully fought against unwarranted allegations in the area of sexual harassment, wrongful termination, Labor Board claims (Wage & Hour), charges of discrimination (state & federal levels), workers compensation retaliation claims, unemployment insurance claims and has over 130 training seminar available for managers and employees.

Topic Description: “The Impact of Domestic Terrorism on the Workplace” which includes active shooter training, how to recognize potential workplace shooters, disgruntled current & former employees and customers, safety measures at and away from work. Active shooter cards will be distributed as well.

Halbert (Bert) Rasmussen, esq.

Halbert “Bert” Rasmussen has been practicing law on the dealer side for over 30 years. He has delivered wins for his clients on such matters as franchise disputes, including terminations instituted by manufacturers, complex multi-party claims arising out of dealership buy-sell agreements, and breach of contract matters, among others. He uses his franchise and distribution law skills to help clients meet their goals, avoid litigation, and maintain harmonious relations with their franchisors. He has extensive experience representing car, truck, bus, and motorcycle dealers in most legal issues they face. He Rasmussen also defends clients when they are accused of violating regulatory requirements, and helps them with policies and procedures to achieve regulatory compliance. Rasmussen’s experience also extends to negotiating agreements with manufacturers, realty owners, and lenders as well as mergers and acquisitions and consumer and business litigation.

Topic: “TAKING STOCK OF DEALER FRANCHISE RIGHTS – PAST, PRESENT, AND YET TO COME”

Topic Description: A review of dealer franchise rights with a focus on the development of California law over the past 30 years, including a look at a currently proposed expansion of those right as laid out in Assembly Bill 473. Issues covered include protests, prohibited contract requirements, prohibited facilities requirements, and prohibited incentive requirements.

Joe Souza has more than 25 years of experience in occupational safety and health in private and public entity settings. He has extensive education in Occupational Safety and Health and is the District Manager for the entire Western US; has earned his degree in Occupational Health and Safety Technician; OSHA Outreach Trainer, has multiple certifications related to safety and is a subject matter expert in over 40 safety related topics.

Committed to providing a safe and healthful workplace and areas of responsibility includes compliance with all State and Federal regulations relating to occupational safety and health. Joe provides leadership, training, information, resources, policy development, and consultation services to more than 1600 facilities.
